Benninghoff to Host Free Community Shredding Event this Saturday

October 6, 2020

BELLEFONTE – Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) announced he will be hosting a free community shredding event this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9-11 a.m. (or until the shredder is full).

The event will be held at Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road in State College.

“This paper shredding event is a great opportunity to safely and securely get rid of sensitive papers that have piled up from members of our community utilizing this extraordinary time to do some much needed cleaning and reorganizing,” Benninghoff said. “I look forward to seeing, at a safe distance, neighbors and new faces at the event.”

This event will allow residents to have their important documents shredded for free. Residents are encouraged to bring documents that contain credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information and bank account information to be shredded. In addition, books, magazines and binders will be accepted. Each person will be permitted to shred no more than four boxes of material. No metal – including paper clips, binder clips or spiral notebooks – can be shredded.

Due to COVID-19, attendees are asked to follow these guidelines:

• Event participants must stay in their vehicles.
• All shredding materials must be placed in the trunk or truck bed area of the vehicle, not the backseat, prior to arrival. Event staff will unload materials while residents remain in their vehicles.
• To minimize the exchange of materials between event participants and staff, please transport materials in containers you will not want returned to you.

This is an event for residents only; no businesses, please. For questions, please call Benninghoff’s Bellefonte office at 814-355-3523.
